Frequently asked questions

What does this validator check?
It confirms the XML is well-formed, checks that the root element is <urlset> or <sitemapindex>, counts URL entries, and verifies each <loc> contains a non-empty, valid URL.
What is the difference between an error and a warning?
Errors are structural problems — like malformed XML, a missing <loc>, or an invalid URL — that will likely cause search engines to reject entries. Warnings flag things worth reviewing that usually won’t break the sitemap.
Does a “pass” guarantee Google will accept my sitemap?
No. This tool checks structural validity, but Google Search Console applies additional checks — like URL reachability and canonicalization — that this tool can’t verify.
Is my sitemap uploaded anywhere for validation?
No. The XML is parsed and checked entirely in your browser using the DOMParser API — nothing is sent to a server.
